Ben Wheeler

CEO

Ben Wheeler has held key roles in the development and commercialisation of similar pump technologies over the past 10 years. His unique experience in working alongside a large multinational corporation during that time has given him specialist knowledge and global capabilities.
Ben’s role in the company is multidimensional; he is fundamental in the development of the core technology,  manages engineering processes, prototyping and manufacturing as well as corporate strategy. Ben has a strong belief in the capabilities of the technology and the benefits it will provide in its application to the medical field.

Daryl Wheeler

Inventor / Director

Over the last 40 years Daryl Wheeler’s career has been defined by his unwavering pursuit to create, develop and implement new technologies across a range of industries.

Daryl has a successful history in patenting his inventions internationally and has executed various commercial opportunities in both private and publicly listed companies.  

Daryls’ specialist know how in the area of fluid dynamics and fluid transfer technologies provides Astronova with the skill set to create its unique blood pump.

Dr Greg Roger

Director / FIEAust

Dr Greg Roger has more than 30 years experience in the field of medical, bio mechanical engineering, product development and commercialisation.
Having developed, patented and commercialised medical devices. 

Dr Roger is familiar with the key requirements for commercial and technical success in this industry.

Dr Roger is also an Associate Professor at Sydney University and is a medical practitioner assisting in orthopaedic and spinal surgery.

Prof. Michael Wilson

Cardiothoracic surgeon / Consultant

Professor Michael Wilson is a leading cardiothoracic surgeon with clinical appointments at Royal Prince Alfred, Concord, Strathfield Private and Macquarie University Hospitals. Professor Wilson has a special interest in the utilisation of emerging technologies and minimally invasive techniques to deal with complex heart and lung surgical problems. 
Professor Wilson has an international reputation for applying new technologies to complex heart and lung surgical problems. He is sought after for his expertise in managing patients with complex problems. He has been involved in several ‘first-in-man’ procedures and is a great advocate for teaching the next generation of surgeons to think outside the square and become innovative too.

Peter Botman

Director / CA

Peter Botman is a Chartered Accountant with more than 30 years' experience working in both the professional and corporate environments. 
Over Peter’s career, he has been involved in a number of new technology projects. These ranged from a solar powered pump and automatic dispensing machine to a horizontal boring unit.  Given his diverse employment history, Peter has demonstrated a capability to instigate and be a team member in a variety of projects.The mixture of Peter’s willingness to embrace new technologies and with his strong corporate process brings a unique set of skills to the team and the project’s execution.

Tony Mizzi

Patent Attorney / Consultant

Tony Mizzi has been involved in the protection of intellectual property in engineering technologies for over thirty five years, the last twenty four as a principal of a major Australian patent attorney firm. 

This time has provided Tony with an understanding of the commercial and strategic context of intellectual property. Life time relationships with many start-up companies; some that have grown, and perhaps more so those that have not, has given Tony unique experiences and perspective to bring to Astronova.
